Don’t Miss Out: Dr. Dre Opens Up About His Deepest Regret
Dr. Dre, the legendary producer, has achieved unparalleled success over the last four decades, but a decision he made years ago still haunts him today. In a candid conversation with Lindsey Renee on her Behind the Patrol podcast, Dre revealed that he let go of all his records – a choice he deeply regrets.
One of the most significant revelations during the interview was Dre’s admission that he no longer possesses a copy of the track “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You” by Leon Haywood. This particular song was sampled in the iconic “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” track. The reason behind Dre’s lack of ownership of the song dates back to approximately two decades ago when he sold his vast vinyl collection of over 80,000 albums.
Dre opened up about this regrettable decision, saying, “There’s another story that I’m really not proud of. I had a collection of records. I had over 80,000 albums that I stored in a warehouse and at a certain point, I think in the early 2000s, I sold all of my wax — and I’m kicking myself in the ass still about that.”
The reason behind selling his precious vinyl collection was practical but ultimately left Dre with a sense of loss. He elaborated, “It was a warehouse. I had a turntable in there and a bar and everything. And then all of a sudden it just turned into a bill because I was never going. It took me 10 years to decide to sell, and I finally did. And I’m really pissed off at myself about that.”
Despite this regret, Dr. Dre has other exciting music news to share. He recently announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Eminem is gearing up to release a new album this year. Titled “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” Eminem’s 12th studio album was confirmed by the Detroit rap legend following the 2024 NFL Draft. Dre expressed his enthusiasm for the project, mentioning that he has contributed songs to the album, describing it as “fire.”
Moreover, Dr. Dre is also collaborating with Snoop Dogg on the latter’s upcoming album, “Missionary,” slated to be released later this year. Snoop Dogg shared his admiration for Dre’s meticulous approach to production, calling him a “perfectionist.” He praised Dre’s ability to push him to new heights creatively, resulting in a “masterful” project.
During a recent appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, Snoop Dogg expressed his excitement for the collaborative effort with Dre, describing the experience as transformative. He highlighted Dre’s influence on his artistry, emphasizing the growth and evolution evident in their work together.
As fans eagerly anticipate the release of Eminem’s new album and Snoop Dogg’s “Missionary,” the music world remains captivated by the enduring talent and creativity of Dr. Dre. Despite his regret over parting ways with his vinyl collection, Dre continues to make significant contributions to the industry, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of hip-hop and beyond.
