Legendary Rolling Stones Guitarist Keith Richards Hints at Exciting New Album in the Works
Keith Richards, the legendary guitarist of the Rolling Stones, recently revealed that the band has a trove of leftover material from their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” that could potentially be released as another album. The Stones, who just dropped their first album of new songs in 18 years, received widespread acclaim for their enduring sound that has captivated audiences for over 60 years.
In an interview with Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, Richards disclosed that they only used their most compelling tracks for “Hackney Diamonds,” a 48-minute masterpiece. Despite this, the band still has a surplus of songs in their arsenal that could potentially see the light of day. “I think when we recover from ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ we’ll be giving it a good thought. But the reason these 12 are on it, these are the best. Also, you’ve got to draw a line somewhere,” shared Richards.
By enlisting the expertise of hitmaking producer Andrew Watt, the Stones were able to collaborate with music icons such as Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder on the album. They also incorporated the posthumous beats of Charlie Watts into two songs, adding a poignant touch to the record. While the material is undoubtedly there, Richards noted that some songs require further polishing before they are ready for public consumption. “Some of them, because they’re not totally ready yet, they’re good, but they need a little work. But there’s another one in there, I think maybe with a few more additions,” remarked Richards.
Despite the surplus of material, Richards emphasized the need to savor the success of “Hackney Diamonds” before delving into a new project. “At the moment, let me get this one out of the way, man,” he expressed to Apple Music 1.
In a reflective moment, Richards shared that the album was a welcome surprise in his career and has given him a sense of pride in the enduring impact of the Rolling Stones’ music on the world. “The fact that our music has managed to become part of the fabric of life everywhere, I feel pretty proud about that, more than any one particular thing or one particular song,” mused Richards. He concluded his sentiments with his trademark wit, stating, “It is nice to be accepted into this legendary piece of bullshit.”
