Former Model Files Lawsuit Against Axl Rose Claiming Sexual Assault and Battery
Guns N Roses frontman Axl Rose is facing serious allegations of sexual assault and battery brought forth by former model Sheila Kennedy. The lawsuit was filed in New York on Wednesday, accusing the rock star of violently abusing Kennedy in a hotel room back in 1989. However, Rose vehemently denies these accusations. His attorney, Alan Gutman, asserts that the incident never occurred and labels the claims as fictional, highlighting that they were conveniently filed just before the state deadline expired.
Kennedy, a former Penthouse model and Pet of the Year in 1983, claims that she met Rose in a nightclub and was invited back to his hotel room. Once there, she alleges Rose provided drugs and alcohol to the guests before engaging in aggressive behavior. The lawsuit states that Rose began having aggressive sex with another model in front of Kennedy, after which he allegedly turned his attention towards her.
According to Kennedy, Rose pushed her to the floor, dragged her by the hair across the suite, and tied her hands behind her back with her pantyhose. She describes feeling vulnerable and alone with Rose in a violent state, leading to non-consensual penetration. The lawsuit further details the emotional, physical, and psychological impact that Kennedy has endured as a result of the alleged assault, including symptoms resembling PTSD.
Kennedy’s attorney, Dr. Ann Olivarius, believes that her client’s courage in filing the lawsuit can be a crucial turning point in addressing the prevalent culture of violence and sexual misconduct within the music industry. The filing falls under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which temporarily suspended the statute of limitations on sexual misconduct claims for civil suits, allowing survivors like Kennedy to seek justice.
This isn’t the first high-profile case brought forth through the ASA, with numerous accusations being leveled against public figures in various industries. The law aims to empower survivors of assault to come forward and seek accountability, shedding light on a systemic issue of enabling and covering up misconduct.
As the legal proceedings unfold, it’s essential to support survivors of sexual abuse. Organizations like Rape Crisis offer crucial resources for those affected by assault, providing a safe space to seek help and guidance. By raising awareness and encouraging survivors to speak out, we can collectively work towards a safer and more inclusive industry for all.
