Rockstar Axl Rose faces lawsuit for alleged sexual assault in the heart of New York City
Welcome to Music Nation 365 News, your source for the latest music industry updates and headlines. Today’s news brings a headline that has shaken the music world – Axl Rose, the iconic lead singer of Guns N’ Roses, has been named in a new lawsuit alleging sexual assault dating back to 1989.
In the lawsuit filed in New York and obtained by The Times, model Sheila Kennedy accuses Rose of using his fame and power to gain access to her and subsequently sexually assaulting her. Kennedy claims that after meeting Rose in a nightclub in early 1989, they engaged in consensual activities that quickly turned violent and uncomfortable for her.
According to Kennedy, Rose threw her on the floor, dragged her across the hotel suite, tied her hands behind her back, and then forcibly penetrated her without a condom. The lawsuit describes Rose’s behavior as manipulative and abusive, leaving Kennedy with lifelong effects such as anxiety and depression.
Rose’s attorney has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that the incident never occurred and that Rose has no recollection of ever meeting Kennedy. The attorney also pointed out that the timing of the lawsuit, filed just before the New York State deadline, raises suspicions about the authenticity of the claims.
This lawsuit is not the first time Rose has faced legal action regarding allegations of assault. His ex-wife, Erin Everly, sued him in 1994, and another one of his exes, Stephanie Seymour, was involved in a legal battle with him as well. Both cases were eventually settled outside of court.
Sheila Kennedy was able to file her lawsuit thanks to New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which created a one-year “lookback window” allowing adults to sue for past incidents of sexual abuse despite the statute of limitations. This window for legal action under the act is closing this week.
Rose is just the latest in a series of music industry figures implicated in high-profile claims of sexual abuse under the New York act. Other names include former Recording Academy executive Neil Portnow, record executives L.A. Reid, music icon Steven Tyler, and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs.
These allegations underscore the prevalence of abuse and misconduct in the music industry, shedding light on the need for greater accountability and transparency. As these cases move forward, the music world watches closely, grappling with the complex intersection of power, fame, and justice.
