Shocking Allegation: Axl Rose Faces Accusations of 1989 Sexual Assault in Latest Lawsuit
A former model has come forward with serious allegations against rock icon Axl Rose, accusing him of sexually assaulting her in New York over 30 years ago. Sheila Kennedy, a former Penthouse model and Pet of the Year in 1983, filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court claiming that Rose violently assaulted her in his hotel room in 1989.
According to Kennedy, she met the Guns N’ Roses frontman at a nightclub in New York when she was around 26 years old. She alleged that Rose invited her back to his hotel room for a party after speaking with him at the club. Kennedy’s friend was not allowed to join them because Rose reportedly said she was “not hot enough.” Kennedy apologized to her friend and went back to Rose’s hotel room with him, along with another model and future MTV host Riki Rachtman.
Once at the hotel room, Rose allegedly provided the guests with cocaine, champagne, and other alcohol. Kennedy claimed that after she went to the bathroom, Rose waited outside the door and then pushed her against the wall and kissed her. While Kennedy found Rose attractive and was open to the idea of sleeping with him, she did not consent to the sexual encounter that occurred later that evening.
As the party progressed, with only Rose, Rachtman, the other model, and Kennedy in the room, Rose began having sex with the other model in an aggressive manner, making Kennedy uncomfortable. She alleged that Rose was encouraging group sex, but she was not interested and left the room with Rachtman.
Later, back at Rachtman’s room, Kennedy heard glass shattering and Rose yelling at the other model, calling her derogatory names. Rose then noticed Kennedy, pushed her to the floor, dragged her to his bedroom, tied her hands behind her back with pantyhose, and forcibly penetrated her. Kennedy felt trapped and overpowered, believing that resisting Rose could lead to physical harm.
Rose has denied these allegations through his attorney, stating that the incident never happened. He claims to have no recollection of ever meeting Kennedy and is confident that the case will be resolved in his favor.
Kennedy’s lawsuit details the traumatic impact of the alleged assault on her life, citing PTSD-like symptoms triggered by Rose’s name or Guns N’ Roses’ music. She has experienced anxiety and depression since the incident, which she claims has compromised her career. The suit seeks unspecified damages for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and gender-motivated violence.
This is not the first time Kennedy has shared her story of alleged abuse by Rose. She previously wrote about the incident in her autobiography and discussed it in a documentary on sexual misconduct in the music industry.
The lawsuit was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which has waived the statute of limitations on sexual-misconduct claims for civil suits. This law has led to a wave of allegations against prominent figures in the music industry, including Steven Tyler, L.A. Reid, Neil Portnow, Kenny MacPherson, and Ahmet Ertegun.
In light of these serious accusations, the music world is once again grappling with issues of abuse, consent, and power dynamics. As the legal process unfolds, the industry and fans alike wait to see how this disturbing chapter will be resolved.
