Guns N’ Roses is back with a new single titled “The General”, and it’s definitely a departure from their classic blues rock sound. This track features elements ranging from Korn-inspired clean and FX’ed guitars in the verse to a massive, angular chorus with blown-out vocals. While not a standout hit, it’s a compelling listen that showcases the band’s willingness to experiment and evolve.
Following their previous 2023 single “Perhaps”, “The General” continues to push the boundaries for Guns N’ Roses. Vocalist Axl Rose and guitarist Slash were reportedly in the studio earlier this year working on new mixes, hinting at more music to come. In an interview with production manager Tom Mayhue, it was revealed that the band is gearing up to release material reminiscent of their iconic album, “Appetite For Destruction”.
Mayhue shared, “It sounds great. It’s a lot more kind of Appetite For Destruction-orientated. They had a lot of songs. When the band went in originally and recorded Appetite For Destruction, I think they recorded, like, 29 songs. So there’s a bunch of other music that was left over that didn’t make the first record. I think there’s only 11 songs on the first record.”
