Admitting to falling into the trap of excessive drinking, Sorum reflected on the band’s gang mentality. “I felt like a pirate on a pirate ship. I wanted to be part of the gang. I didn’t have one tattoo when I joined Guns N’ Roses, but I felt the need to conform to the rock n’ roll lifestyle. It was almost like a rite of passage, but it took a toll on me,” he confessed.

Ego played a significant role in the band’s dynamic, leading to self-destruction and internal conflicts. The larger-than-life persona of Guns N’ Roses often overshadowed the individual members, setting the stage for a tumultuous journey ahead.

Despite the fame and success, Sorum cautioned aspiring musicians about the perils of stardom. “Success can be daunting. It changes everything – your relationships, your priorities. I found myself drifting away from my family and losing sight of what truly mattered. The rock and roll lifestyle consumed me, and I prioritized the party over the music,” he shared.
