Get Ready for Kanye West’s Haunting New Album Teased with Jon Rafman Film
Kanye West has released a captivating trailer for his upcoming album, Vultures, featuring eerie visuals crafted by the talented artist and filmmaker Jon Rafman.
The trailer, unveiled on X, immerses viewers in a feverish tale where a suburban town is overrun by cultists, transforming it into a twisted landscape inhabited by wolf men, murderous clowns, and hungry crows. Throughout the film, West’s lyrics serve as a haunting backdrop, addressing accusations of misogyny and antisemitism. The trailer culminates in a spectral army standing ready for battle amid a backdrop of blazing homes.
As teased in an Instagram post by West, now known as Ye, the long-awaited album will be released in three parts on February 9, March 8, and April 5 respectively.
This collaboration with Rafman signifies a significant return to the spotlight for the artist, whose career faced a setback in 2020 following allegations of sexual misconduct by three women via the Instagram account @surviving_the_artworld, launched during the #MeToo era.
Rafman, addressing the allegations, expressed disagreement with their portrayal in the press and Instagram. He took legal action against the Montreal Gazette for defamation, which was settled earlier this year with the Gazette acknowledging the lack of opportunity for Rafman to refute the claims and the removal of related articles from their website.
Rafman issued a public apology for his actions in 2020, emphasizing his empathy for the victims while critiquing the media’s handling of the situation.
Known for his surreal video installations and film essays, Rafman’s work has been widely exhibited, though some solo shows were put on hold post-scandal.
West, no stranger to controversy himself, has faced criticism for past antisemitic behavior, for which he publicly apologized in 2023. The Vultures trailer hints at a shift in his approach, indicating a move towards a more assertive stance through his art.
