Rock Legend Axl Rose Marks Another Year Around the Sun – Join the Celebration on 93.7 The River!
Today is a day to celebrate a rock legend, as we wish a very happy birthday to W. Axl Rose, the iconic lead singer of Guns N’ Roses! Axl Rose formed the band in 1985, after previous unsuccessful attempts with Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns. Guns N’ Roses would skyrocket to fame in the late 80s with their debut album “Appetite for Destruction” in 1987. This album became the best-selling debut album of all time, with 18 million units sold, and the band hit number one on the charts with the hit single “Sweet Child o’ Mine”.
Following their success, Guns N’ Roses continued to make their mark on the music industry with the release of “G N’ R Lies” in 1988, featuring the acoustic ballad “Patience”. The band then made waves with the release of the massive twin albums “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illusion II”. These albums debuted at No. 2 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold a combined total of 35 million copies worldwide.
Axl Rose’s journey as a rockstar was not without its share of controversies. He was involved in riots during tours, engaged in public rants against the media and his bandmates, and found himself in feuds with bands like Metallica and Nirvana. Despite the ups and downs, in 2012, Guns N’ Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Axl Rose made amends with Slash and Duff McKagan. This led to the monumental reunion of Guns N’ Roses in 2016 for their record-breaking Not in This Lifetime… Tour.
Happy Birthday, Axl Rose! Your name is synonymous with rockstar status, and your contribution to the music industry is truly legendary. Here’s to many more years of rocking out and making unforgettable music!
