Exclusive Interview: Slash Reveals the Secret Reason Behind Why a Guns N Roses Movie Will Never Happen
Guns N Roses, the iconic rock band led by the legendary guitarist Slash, will not be receiving the biopic treatment anytime soon according to the man himself. Slash, born Saul Hudson, recently discussed this topic in an interview where he revealed that both the band and he personally have declined offers to have their story immortalized on the big screen. The guitarist, who executive produced and scored the horror film, The Breach, shared that there have been discussions about making a movie on Guns N Roses as well as his own life story after the publication of his autobiography, Slash: The Autobiography, in 2007. However, the answer has always been a resounding no.
Slash expressed his reservations about rock ânâ roll movies in general, citing their tendency to come off as corny and unrealistic. He believes that finding actors who could accurately portray the band would be a difficult task. Therefore, the idea of a scripted depiction of their history does not appeal to him. This sentiment extends to the possibility of a solo Slash movie as well, with the guitarist firmly rejecting the idea.
The full conversation with Slash can be heard in the latest episode of the MovieMaker podcast, where he talks about his work on The Breach, a film directed by his longtime friend Rodrigo Gudiño. The movie recently debuted at the 2022 Fantasia Film Festival and follows the story of a small-town chief of police and his quest to uncover the secrets hidden in a physicist’s haunted home.
Slash’s love for horror, which was sparked by authors like H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, is showcased in his work on The Breach. Growing up in England, he was influenced by Hammer horror films and Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds, which had a profound impact on him.
His passion for movies is also reflected in his music, particularly in Guns N Roses’ close ties to Hollywood. From having their music featured in Clint Eastwood’s film to collaborating with Arnold Schwarzenegger for a music video, Guns N Roses has deep roots in the world of cinema. For example, their music was prominently featured in the recent blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder.
Looking towards the future, Slash expresses concerns about the impact of streaming on both the music and film industries. The rise of streaming services and the unforeseen challenges brought on by the pandemic have raised questions about the future of entertainment. Despite these uncertainties, Slash remains optimistic, believing that change is inevitable and that one must adapt to whatever comes their way.
As the rock legend continues to make his mark in the worlds of music and film, his influence and legacy remain as strong as ever. Whether on stage with Guns N Roses or behind the scenes on a film set, Slash’s creative vision continues to captivate audiences around the world.
