Breaking News: Axl Rose Fights Sexual Assault Allegations
Axl Rose, the frontman of Guns N’ Roses, has filed a motion to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit that was brought against him in late 2023. The lawsuit, filed in New York’s Supreme Court in November, alleges that Rose sexually assaulted model Sheila Kennedy in 1989.
In the lawsuit, Kennedy claimed that she was 26 years old when she first met Rose, who was 27, at a nightclub in New York. After an initial consensual kiss, Kennedy alleges that Rose became violent, pushing her against a wall and later dragging her across the suite to his bedroom, causing her knees to bleed.
Rose then allegedly tied up Kennedy’s hands behind her back with pantyhose and forcibly penetrated her, while in a state of “sexual, volatile rage”. The lawsuit further claims that Rose treated Kennedy like “property used solely for his sexual pleasure”, causing her to feel overpowered and traumatized.
Rose’s legal team has filed court documents seeking to dismiss the lawsuit, calling Kennedy’s allegations a “vexatious and meritless attempt at a financial windfall”. They argue that Kennedy previously described the incident as consensual in her memoir and a documentary, and only changed her story to profit from the extended statute of limitations under New York’s Adult Survivors Act.
The lawsuit claims that Kennedy has suffered from PTSD-like symptoms, anxiety, and depression, as well as career setbacks due to the assault. Kennedy is seeking unspecified damages for assault, battery, emotional distress, and gender-motivated violence.
Rose’s lawyer, Alan S. Gutman, has refuted the allegations, calling them “fictional claims” and asserting that the incident never took place. Rose himself denies ever meeting or speaking to Kennedy and is confident that the case will be resolved in his favor.
