Don’t Quit: Celebrities Rally Around Lizzo to Keep Making Music!
Lizzo has been a prominent figure in the music industry for several years now, known for her empowering lyrics, body-positive messages, and incredible vocal talent. However, recent events have led her to consider stepping away from her music career.
On March 29th, the Grammy-winning artist took to Instagram to announce that she is thinking about quitting music altogether. In a heartfelt post, she expressed her frustration with the constant negativity and criticism she faces online, stating, “I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this shit — I quit.”
It is no secret that Lizzo has been facing a fair share of challenges in the past few months, including allegations of sexual harassment and body shaming from her backup dancers, as well as criticism for her political affiliations after performing at President Joe Biden’s campaign event. These issues, in combination with the relentless scrutiny and negativity she faces online, have understandably taken a toll on her mental health and well-being.
However, Lizzo’s fellow musicians and celebrities have rallied around her in a show of support and solidarity during this difficult time. Paris Hilton, Queen Latifah, Judd Apatow, Letoya Luckett, Eric Andre, Sophia Bush, Loni Love, Josh Gad, Todrick Hall, and many others have left messages of love, encouragement, and understanding on her Instagram post.
Paris Hilton simply wrote, “We love you queen,” while Queen Latifah said, “F that do you.” Judd Apatow’s three heart emojis conveyed his support, and Letoya Luckett reminded Lizzo that she is deeply loved. Eric Andre expressed his love for her, while Sophia Bush emphasized the importance of prioritizing self-care and not letting online negativity affect her.
Comedian Loni Love offered practical advice, urging Lizzo to stay off the internet, spend time with loved ones, and keep working. Frozen star Josh Gad shared words of wisdom, stating, “The people who shout the loudest are the most insecure.” Todrick Hall highlighted the positive impact Lizzo’s art has on others, emphasizing that her music changes and saves lives.
It is heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and support for Lizzo from her peers in the entertainment industry. In times of darkness and self-doubt, having a strong support system can make all the difference. Hopefully, with the encouragement and understanding she is receiving, Lizzo will find the strength she needs to navigate through these challenging times and emerge even stronger on the other side.
