KISS legend Gene Simmons has recently come to the defense of pop star JoJo Siwa after fans accused her of ripping off his iconic musician look in her new “demon” style she debuted at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Siwa, known for her appearances on various Nickelodeon shows and a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, has been making waves in the pop and dance music scene with her latest song “Karma“.

Previously, JoJo Siwa was recognized for her wholesome image, typically seen wearing a ponytail and bright, colorful clothing. However, her recent appearance wearing a revealing black leather outfit with black face paint resembling Gene Simmons’ demon character from KISS caused quite a stir among fans and critics alike. Siwa addressed the criticism in an interview with E! News, stating, “People are afraid of things they don’t know. Things can be scary for people. New things can be very, very scary.” She emphasized the importance of creating art and expressed her gratitude for being able to engage in the artistic process.

Siwa also hinted that her iHeartRadio Awards outfit was a sneak peek of what fans could expect from her upcoming music video scheduled for release on April 5th. Alongside comparisons to WWE wrestlers, Siwa was also facing backlash for supposedly imitating Gene Simmons.

However, unlike the critics, Gene Simmons defended JoJo Siwa’s new look in a video posted by TMZ. He praised Siwa, stating, “Everybody who doesn’t get it is just jealous, period. Never be ordinary. Always be extraordinary. JoJo is extraordinary and she looks cool. Of course she looks like me, but that’s another story.”

Despite KISS retiring from the road, Gene Simmons continues to pursue music with solo tour dates scheduled, starting with the Summer Breeze Open Air Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil on April 26. The tour will continue in Europe through late July and early August, concluding in Italy on Aug. 16.
