Nelly’s Epic College Concert Fail Goes Viral – Watch the Video Now!

Nelly’s recent concert at the University of Florida is making waves for all the wrong reasons. The show, organized by the school’s student government, took place last Tuesday (April 9), with free entry offered to any student with a school ID. Unfortunately, it seems that the turnout was less than ideal, as a video from the event shows mostly empty seats in the house despite some attendees near the stage.

According to local Florida publication WUFT, the show was delayed for an hour due to the low turnout. However, the Country Grammar rapper eventually graced the stage at 8 pm, delivering his full set with his brother and hype man, City Spud, by his side. The publication mentioned that by the time the show started, there was a slightly larger crowd on the floor, but the arena seats remained mostly vacant.

It appears that many students attending were not very familiar with Nelly. Some attendees admitted to simply going because it was a free event. One student mentioned, “I like concerts a lot, and I write a list of people I’ve seen live, so why not add another?” Another student confessed that they were not aware of who Nelly was initially, but after a friend’s explanation, they were excited to attend.

Given that the age range for college students is typically between 18 to 22, many of them were not even born during Nelly’s peak in the early 2000s.

Nelly recently claimed that the era of Hip Hop he emerged from remains the toughest ever, at least by one metric. During an appearance on LeBron James’ The Shop, the St. Louis rap legend reflected on his challenging journey to success in the competitive landscape of the 2000s when he had to stand out among established stars in the industry.

Discussing the Grammys and their track record of awarding rappers, he expressed his frustration, stating, “Country Grammar sold five million, and I didn’t even get nominated as Best New Artist! Because my album came out in 2000, so I wasn’t even on the ballot. In 2001, the talented Alicia Keys won, and she deserved it.” Nelly further acknowledged his struggles coming from St. Louis, a city that was overshadowed by major Hip Hop hubs like New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.

He emphasized the stiff competition he faced in the music industry during his era, noting, “My era of music was the toughest era in Hip Hop ever. Ever! When I put out songs, I had to go against DMX, JAY-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Luda. All of us were fighting for one spot! So from ’99 to 2008-2010, it’s the hardest era ever to get records.”
