Quavo Takes Stand Against Gun Violence in Expanded ‘Huncho Day’ Event!
Quavo, known for being a member of the popular rap group Migos, is gearing up for the seventh annual ‘Huncho Day’ event in his hometown of Atlanta. This year, the event will focus on gun violence prevention efforts, in light of the tragic loss of Quavo’s nephew and fellow Migos member, Takeoff, to gun violence in 2022.
The ‘Quavo Cares Social Impact Hub,’ a new initiative that is close to Quavo’s heart, will be at the center of this year’s event. The hub will serve as a space for community resource partners to educate the Atlanta community on service offerings, with a special emphasis on gun violence prevention.
Set to take place on April 28, this year’s ‘Huncho Day’ will feature exciting additions such as Team Huncho Basketball and Team Huncho Elite 7v7 football games, alongside the traditional football and basketball youth clinics and combines supported by the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Falcons.
Proceeds from ‘Huncho Day’ will go towards supporting “Rocket Camp,” a summer violence intervention program aimed at engaging high-risk youth in empowering opportunities for social, economic, and civic growth. The program, led by the Offender Alumni Association, targets youth between the ages of 13-17 in Atlanta.
Despite the event being sold out, interested individuals can still join the waitlist to be a part of the impactful day. The event promises to be a celebration of community, unity, and positive change.
Quavo has been actively working to honor Takeoff’s memory since his passing, most recently with the launch of the Sparks Grants Initiative. The initiative will award grants of $10,000 each to ten organizations focusing on gun violence prevention efforts and regulation in Atlanta.
In a statement, Quavo expressed his commitment to supporting organizations dedicated to reducing community violence, stating, “There is a lot of important work going on in ATL right now, and part of our mission is to uplift these organizations and support them to help save more lives.”
Applications for the grants are still being accepted, with a deadline of April 21. This initiative aims to make a meaningful impact in the fight against gun violence and to honor the memory of those lost to senseless acts of violence.
Quavo’s dedication to his community and his efforts to bring about positive change serve as an inspiration to many. Through events like ‘Huncho Day’ and initiatives like the Sparks Grants program, he continues to make a difference in the lives of those affected by gun violence.
