Experience the Fabulously Odd and Game-Changing Sound of Dry Cleaning on Their EPs Tour – a Delicious Reminder of Their Unique Sound
Dry Cleaning recently experienced a moment that prompted them to consider reissuing their early work. What led to this decision? A rare original pressing of their first vinyl record, featuring their debut EP Sweet Princess and its follow-up Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks, was spotted at Amoeba Records in San Francisco with a hefty $400 price tag. The lockdowns in the UK prevented the South London quartet from performing these tracks live, but with the reopening of indoor venues, they embarked on a 10-date tour across the UK and Ireland to celebrate their early years.
The final show of the tour took place at the EartH Theatre in Hackney, their hometown, and it was a resounding success. To honor their early days, Dry Cleaning deliberately chose smaller venues with minimal lighting and no elaborate stage setup. This allowed the spotlight to shine on the pure essence of the music, showcasing their unadulterated sound.
Performing their six-track EPs in full, Dry Cleaning captivated the audience with their unique blend of music. Tracks like Magic Of Meghan, with its catchy riff and witty lyrics, and Goodnight, with its provocative verses, offered a glimpse into the band’s unconventional style. Dry Cleaning’s groundbreaking approach to indie-rock, characterized by spoken singing and raw authenticity, set them apart in 2018.
Guitarist Tom Dowse hinted at a return to the band’s roots as they prepare to work on a new album following the success of Stumpwork. The energy and power of tracks like No Decent Shoes for Rain and Don’t Press Me, recorded in a more modest setting at Rockfield Studios, signal a promising future for Dry Cleaning.
This tour serves as a reminder of the band’s evolution over the past few years and raises anticipation for their upcoming projects. As Dry Cleaning prepares for a ‘proper’ comeback later this year, fans eagerly await to see the new directions the band will explore. The mystery and excitement surrounding their future endeavors make Dry Cleaning’s journey a captivating one for music enthusiasts everywhere.
