Legendary David Gilmour Returns with New Album ‘Luck And Strange’ after Nine-Year Hiatus – Exploring Themes of Aging and Mortality
Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has exciting news for fans – he will be releasing his first album of new material in nine years titled “Luck And Strange” through Sony Music on September 6. The album will feature a surprise appearance from the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded during a jam session in 2007 at Gilmour’s house.
Tomorrow, on April 25, Gilmour will release his brand new single, “The Piper’s Call,” giving fans a taste of what’s to come. The album was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew, known for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman.
Luck And Strange includes contributions from Romany and Gabriel Gilmour, Guy Pratt, Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry, Roger Eno on keyboards, and string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, provided the lyrics, offering a perspective on aging and mortality.
The album cover, designed by Anton Corbijn, was inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the song “Scattered.” Gilmour expressed his joy in collaborating with his family on this project, embracing a new sense of freedom in his music.
Fans can pre-order “Luck And Strange,” available on black vinyl, CD with two bonus tracks, and Blu-ray. The tracklist includes songs like “Black Cat,” “Luck and Strange,” “Vita Brevis,” and “Scattered” among others.
