Discover CeCe Winans’ Inspirational Journey: From ‘That’s My King’ to ‘More Than This’ Live Album
CeCe Winans, a 15-time Grammy winner with almost four decades of recording experience, released her first live album, Believe for It, in 2021 amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The album was recorded in an intimate setting in Nashville with an audience of about 50 people.
For her upcoming album, More Than This, set to be released on April 26 through PureSprings Gospel/Fair Trade Services, Winans wanted to capture the live audience experience. This time, the album was recorded at the downtown Nashville venue Rocketown in front of around 1,200 spectators.
On More Than This, CeCe Winans blends classic worship songs such as “Sanctuary” and “Oh the Blood of Jesus” with modern worship hits like “Holy Forever” by Chris Tomlin, “Worthy” by Elevation Worship, and “Refiner” by Maverick City Music. The album also features two original songs co-written by Winans, including the title track and “Be Still and Know.”
Winans collaborated with producer Kyle Lee, along with co-producers Thomas Hardin, Jr. and Tyrone Jackson, to carefully curate a tracklist that seamlessly blends old and new worship songs, creating a cohesive and joyful listening experience throughout the album.
The recording process for the album presented its own challenges, as Winans had to rehearse with the band and singers to perfect the live performance of both cover songs and original tracks. Despite the difficulties, Winans approached the recording process with prayer and faith, focusing on delivering a seamless worship experience to the audience.
Music has been a lifelong passion for Winans, who started singing with her family before forming a duo with her brother BeBe. Over the years, she has released 11 solo studio albums, achieving Platinum status with her debut solo album, Alone in His Presence.
Success continued for Winans with the release of Believe For It, which spawned hits like the title track and “Goodness of God.” Her latest single, “That’s My King,” from the upcoming album More Than This, blends worship lyrics with a danceable groove, spreading a message of joy and hope.
Throughout her current The Goodness Tour, Winans performs “That’s My King” with infectious energy, incorporating pompoms into her live show to create a celebratory atmosphere. The album concludes with “In a Little While,” a powerful and joyful song written by Winans’ son, Alvin Love III.
Looking ahead, songs from More Than This are expected to be featured in Winans’ third annual Generations Live conference at Belmont University in Nashville. The conference aims to bring together women from different generations for a time of laughter, tears, and unity.
