Fontaines D.C. reveal shocking music preferences: Love for Korn, but despise Limp Bizkit!
Fontaines D.C. is gearing up to release their highly anticipated fourth album, Romance, on August 23 via XL Recordings. This news comes as a surprise to many fans, as the band has revealed that the record draws inspiration from nu metal legends Korn.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, vocalist Grian Chatten and guitarist Carlos O’Connell discussed how Korn has influenced their new material. O’Connell, who was a nu metal fan in his teenage years, rediscovered his love for bands like Korn and Deftones, stating, “nu metal is this thing I loved when I was 14 and stopped listening to for years and now I love again.” Chatten also expressed his admiration for Korn, despite being initially frightened by their music as a child. However, he made it clear that he is not a fan of Limp Bizkit or Rage Against the Machine.
Aside from Korn, Fontaines D.C. drew influence from a diverse range of artists including Alice In Chains, Mos Def, A$AP Ferg, and OutKast for their upcoming album, Romance.
Bassist Conor Deegan shared some insights into the thematic direction of the new project, stating, “We’ve always had this sense of idealism and romance. Each album gets further away from observing that through the lens of Ireland, as directly as Dogrel. The second album (A Hero’s Death) is about that detachment, and the third (Skinty Fia) is about Irishness dislocated in the diaspora. Now we look to where and what else there is to be romantic about.”
