Latin AMA Legacy Award Presented to Banda MS for Outstanding Contribution
At the 2024 Latin American Music Awards, Banda MS received the prestigious Legacy AMA in recognition of their outstanding two-decade-long artistic journey that began back in 2003 in their hometown of Sinaloa. Over the years, Banda MS has solidified its position as one of the foremost representatives of regional Mexican music on a global scale.
During the award ceremony, presented by Eslabon Armado and Joss Favela, Banda MS graced the stage to deliver a heartfelt acceptance speech, where frontman Oswaldo Silvas expressed gratitude towards the new wave of regional Mexican music artists. Silvas reflected on the band’s humble beginnings in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, more than two decades ago, emphasizing their mission to share this genre of music with the world.
He stated, “More than 21 years ago, we started a dream in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, to be able to take this music to all the corners of the world, to fight for a purpose.” Silvas went on to highlight the importance of the new generation of musicians in elevating the genre of regional Mexican music to greater heights, expressing unwavering dedication to the cause.
Later in the evening, Banda MS delivered a captivating performance on stage, supported by their live musicians who contribute to their distinctive banda sinaloense sound. The performance featured a medley of hits alongside guest appearances from industry heavyweights like Carin LeĂłn and A.B. Quintanilla.
The setlist included their latest single “Tu Perfume,” a collaboration with Los De La S on “Somos Los Que Somos,” and a duet with Carin León on “Ojos Cerrados.” The electrifying performance concluded with a special appearance by A.B. Quintanilla for the lively party anthem “Es Viernes.”
The Latin American Music Awards ceremony took place on Thursday, April 25, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, broadcast live on Univision. Among the top nominees were hitmakers Feid and Peso Pluma, each garnering 12 nominations, closely followed by artists like Bad Bunny, Grupo Frontera, and Karol G.
The star-studded event was co-hosted by Thalia, Becky G, Alejandra Espinoza, and Carlos Ponce, marking a historic moment as the first major U.S. award show to feature a bilingual broadcast in both English and Spanish. The ceremony celebrated the diversity and richness of Latin American music, honoring the talented musicians who have made a significant impact on the industry.
