Exclusive Interview: Bill Wyman reveals shocking details about leaving The Rolling Stones and his incredible life after
Bill Wyman, the legendary bassist of The Rolling Stones, has been living life on his own terms after leaving the band in 1993. As his former bandmates gear up for another tour, the 87-year-old musician has reflected on his decision to part ways with the iconic rock group.
Wyman revealed his surprise departure from The Rolling Stones, stating, “I left in 1991 but they would not believe me. It was not until 1993 that they finally accepted that I had left two years prior. I just had enough. It was half my life and I thought, ‘I have got other things I want to do’.”
Since leaving the band, Wyman has delved into a variety of interests, including archaeology, writing books, hosting photo exhibitions, and playing charity cricket. He has also developed a passion for collecting treasures such as stamps, music hall posters, and Rupert Bear annuals.
Reflecting on his collection of Rupert Bear annuals, Wyman reminisced about his childhood during the war when Rupert Bear annuals were a cherished possession. His love for collecting them has grown over the years, envisioning the possibility of filling a museum with his memorabilia.
In 2012, Wyman reunited with The Rolling Stones for their 50th-anniversary performances at London’s O2 Arena. However, he later expressed his firm stance on not rejoining the band, emphasizing that he has “better things to do.”
Despite the brief reunion, Wyman maintains that going back to past experiences, whether in music or personal relationships, never yields the same results. He likened it to a school reunion or a military gathering, acknowledging that certain moments are meant to be cherished as they were – a fleeting yet memorable experience.
Reflecting on his time with The Rolling Stones, Wyman’s departure from the band has allowed him to explore new avenues and indulge in his diverse interests. As he continues his journey post-Stones, the bassist remains content with the life he has chosen for himself.
