Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has recently unveiled his latest single, “The Piper’s Call,” along with a captivating music video that takes viewers on a visual journey through Ely Cathedral, Gilmour’s houseboat studio Astoria, and the scenic streets of Brighton. The video, directed by filmmaker Gavin Elder, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Gilmour’s upcoming solo album, “Luck And Strange,” set to be released on September 6 through Sony Music.

The album, recorded over a five-month period in Brighton and London, features a stellar lineup of musicians including Gilmour himself, co-producer Charlie Andrew, Polly Samson, Romany and Gabriel Gilmour, drummer Steve Gadd, bassist Guy Pratt, engineer Matt Glasbey, keyboard player Rob Gentry, assistant engineer Luie Stylianou, and even Wesley the dog. Notably, “Luck And Strange” includes a special appearance from the late Pink Floyd keyboard player, Richard Wright, in a recording from 2007.

Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, who contributed lyrics to the album, describes the music as reflective of the passage of time and the contemplation of mortality. “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant,” she explains. Gilmour adds, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kinds of things,” hinting at the introspective nature of the album’s themes.

For fans eager to experience the new music, “Luck And Strange” will be available in various formats including black vinyl with a gatefold sleeve and booklet featuring photography and design by Anton Corbijn, as well as on CD with two bonus tracks and a Corbijn-designed digipak and booklet. Additionally, a Blu-ray version of the album will offer a visual companion to the music.
