Get ready to be amazed as Periphery teams up with English guitar virtuoso Mike Dawes to give a modern acoustic twist to their hit song It’s Only Smiles!

US prog metallers Periphery have unveiled their softer side with the recent release of their new two-song single, Acoustic Singles. The single features stripped-down versions of Scarlet (from Periphery II) and It’s Only Smiles (from Periphery IV: Hail Stan), showcasing a different dimension of the band’s sound.

The track includes a special guest appearance from UK guitarist Mike Dawes, a musician recognized for his incredible talent and named Best Acoustic Guitarist in the World multiple times by polls in Total Guitar and MusicRadar. Dawes shares his experience working with Periphery, remarking on the unique synergy they developed during their time together.

Vocalist Spencer Sotelo explains the inspiration behind the collaboration, stating, “We had Mike out with us on tour last fall and we decided to have an acoustic break in our set where Mike would come out and perform these two songs with me.” The response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive, prompting the band to record these reinterpretations and capture the magic of their live performances.

Dawes also reflects on his admiration for the members of Periphery, expressing his excitement to collaborate with them. He mentions his previous solo cover of Scarlet in 2016, which aimed to introduce the melodic side of heavy music to a different audience. The opportunity to rearrange these songs with the band allowed him to showcase modern acoustic playing to Periphery’s loyal fanbase.

Acoustic Singles is not only available for streaming but also as a 7-inch single on white and gold vinyl, limited to just 500 copies. Fans of Periphery and acoustic music enthusiasts alike can enjoy these unique renditions of the band’s popular tracks, offering a fresh perspective on their signature sound.
