System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian is gearing up to release a new solo EP titled Foundations in September. This EP will feature a song that was originally written for System Of A Down but never saw the light of day. Tankian shared details about this upcoming release with Metal Hammer while promoting his autobiography “Down With The System,” set to be released on May 14.
Tankian described Foundations as a collection of five songs that delve into different periods of his musical journey. The EP will showcase his evolution as an artist and offer a glimpse into previously unreleased material from various stages of his career. Tankian and his band recently filmed five music videos for the upcoming EP and are expected to release them in the coming months.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind Foundations, Tankian explained, “The archival nature of writing a book made me look into songs from different periods of time. One of the songs is from the early days of System Of A Down, while others date back to my solo record period in 2007/2008. Each song brings its unique flavor to the EP, ranging from heavy rock to progressive sounds.”
System Of A Down recently headlined the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, delivering a memorable 27-song set that delighted fans. The band treated the audience to rare performances of tracks like CUBErt and Bubbles, showcasing their musical diversity and enduring appeal. This marked their second appearance at the festival, following their debut in 2023.
Fans can catch System Of A Down live at their upcoming co-headlining show with Deftones at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on August 17. This highly anticipated event promises to be a night of unforgettable music and monumental performances from two iconic rock bands.
