It’s not every day that an artist’s least favorite song becomes a massive hit, but that’s exactly what happened with SZA’s track “Snooze”. Initially, the New Jersey-born singer did not see the song as a standout on her album. However, thanks to the unwavering support of her fans, she has come to appreciate it as her favorite track.

Sharing her newfound love for “Snooze” on Twitter, SZA expressed her gratitude to her fans for opening her eyes to the song’s greatness. She admitted, “I’m not gonna lie, ‘Snooze’ wasn’t my favorite when I made the album but now it’s my favorite hands down. Played it at the beach and it was noiiiiiiceeeee đŸ„č. I’m late but thank y’all for riding till I got some sense đŸ˜‚đŸ«¶đŸŸâ€ïž”.

The success of “Snooze” speaks for itself, as it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the only song to chart in the U.S. for every single week of 2023. Additionally, it broke the record for the most weeks atop the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with an impressive 30 weeks. The track even won the Best R&B Song award at the 2024 Grammy Awards and was crowned by Spotify as the greatest R&B song of the streaming era just this month.

Originally released on her SOS album in December 2022, “Snooze” continues to make waves on the music charts even now, 72 weeks later. As of the latest update, it is sitting comfortably at No. 19 on the Hot 100 chart.

Later this year, SZA will be honored with the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards dinner. This prestigious award is presented to gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs. SZA will be only the second Black woman to receive this honor, following in the footsteps of Alicia Keys who received the award in 2005.

SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers expressed his excitement about honoring SZA, stating, “Phenomenal artists like BeyoncĂ© and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like, but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA. Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”

Reacting to the news of the award on her Instagram Story, SZA shared her heartfelt gratitude, saying, “This is THE most meaningful thing to me you have NO idea. THANK YOU beyond words for seeing me at all.”
