During his funeral at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced the launch of the Rico Wade Music Executive Training Program. This new initiative by the City Of Atlanta’s Office of Film, Entertainment, and Nightlife aims to provide aspiring music business professionals with the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and established music executives.
Mayor Dickens emphasized that the program will continue Rico Wade’s legacy of sharing knowledge with others. The goal is for aspiring music industry professionals to benefit from the wisdom and experience of industry veterans, such as those who gathered to pay their respects at Wade’s funeral. Attendees included prominent figures like L.A. Reid, Ethiopia Habtemariam, and Sylvia Rhone.
While Mayor Dickens did not provide specific details about the program, he stressed the importance of honoring Rico Wade’s contribution to music and culture. The launch of the initiative signifies Atlanta’s commitment to preserving Wade’s influence in the music industry.
During the service, Atlanta City Councilwoman Marci Overstreet proclaimed April 26 as Rico Wade Day in his hometown. Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Senator Raphael Warnock also paid tribute to the late producer, highlighting his impact on Atlanta’s Hip Hop scene.
Rico Wade, who passed away on April 13 at the age of 52, was a trailblazer in Atlanta’s Hip Hop scene. He co-founded Dungeon Family, a collective that included iconic artists like OutKast, Goodie Mob, and Killer Mike. Known for his production work on hit albums and R&B classics, Wade’s influence extended beyond music. He was a key figure in shaping the sound of Southern Hip Hop.
Survived by his wife Debbie Wade and his children Rico Wade II and Ryder Wade, Rico Wade’s legacy will live on through the Rico Wade Music Executive Training Program. The program seeks to inspire and educate the next generation of music industry professionals, ensuring that Wade’s impact endures for years to come.
