Relive the Magic: Drake Celebrates 8th Anniversary of ‘Views’ Album with Fans
Drake has recently taken his fans on a delightful journey down memory lane to commemorate the eighth anniversary of his acclaimed album, Views. In the early hours of Monday morning, the Canadian rapper shared a series of throwback pictures on his Instagram account, showcasing early art designs, promotional materials, and even a screenshot of a text from his business partner Oliver El-Khatib discussing enlisting the late Virgil Abloh for an OVO Sound Radio mix.
In the caption of his post, Drake simply wrote, “Views April 29,” stirring up nostalgia among his dedicated fan base. The post was met with an outpouring of fond memories from fans, with one expressing how the album had changed their life, while another reminisced, “You just had to be dere.”
Drake’s fourth studio album, Views, made a massive impact upon its release in 2016. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with over a million equivalent sales units in its first week, marking the highest tally of his career. Featuring a blend of international influences, Views boasted hits like “Hotline Bling,” “One Dance,” and “Controlla,” and included guest appearances from artists such as Rihanna, Future, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Pimp C, Wizkid, and dvsn.
During an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 around the time of Views’ release, Drake described the album as his best vocal performance to date. He emphasized the importance of creating the album in his hometown of Toronto, stating, “We really love our summers but we really make our winters work. I thought it was very important to do the album here.”
Originally titled Views from the 6, Drake revealed the reason behind the change in title during the same interview, explaining, “I think the announcement was more than just the album title. It was a shift in the city – we saw an opening there. The name took on a life of its own.”
One of the standout tracks from Views, “Feel No Ways,” recently resurfaced thanks to Future and Metro Boomin. The duo’s latest album, “We Still Don’t Trust You,” includes a track called “This Sunday,” featuring the same hook as “Feel No Ways.” Future is credited as a co-writer on the Views version, but it’s unclear whether the hook originally belonged to the Atlanta rapper or if he created it as a reference track.
While “This Sunday” leaked in 2015, a year before Views’ release, its official unveiling almost a decade later has reignited speculation among fans about potential issues between Drake and Future. The track’s resurgence has sparked conversations about the dynamics between the two artists and their collaboration history.
