Get Ready for an Epic Comeback: Taylor Swift and More Music Stars Are back!
Exciting news for music lovers! TikTok and Universal Music Group have struck a new licensing deal, bringing back music from some of the biggest names in the industry to the popular app. The announcement was made on May 2 through TikTok’s community page, stating that the new agreement will provide significant benefits for UMG’s artists, songwriters, and labels, allowing their music to reach TikTok’s massive billion-plus global community once again.
The deal includes improved remuneration for UMG’s artists and songwriters, along with new promotional and engagement opportunities. Additionally, the agreement ensures industry-leading protections related to generative AI to safeguard the artists’ work. Moreover, new tools will be introduced in the app to further support artists, such as ‘Add to Music App,’ enhanced data and analytics, and integrated ticketing capabilities.
A spokesperson for the company revealed to Entertainment Weekly that UMG artists can expect to see their music back on TikTok within the next two weeks. This development comes after a three-month hiatus when UMG removed its artists’ music from the platform due to disagreements over fair compensation for their work.
With this new deal in place, music from globally renowned artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Drake, Ariana Grande, Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, SZA, The Weeknd, and Harry Styles will once again be available on TikTok for fans to enjoy.
However, this revival of music on TikTok comes amidst the backdrop of potential trouble for the app, as a bill to ban TikTok has been passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, subsequently signed by President Biden. This legislation gives the app’s parent company, ByteDance, nine months to sell the platform or face being banned.
With new music from artists like Ariana Grande and Sia set to release in 2024, it’s an exciting time for music fans around the world. Stay tuned for these highly anticipated albums and more updates on the latest music trends and industry news right here on Music Nation 365!
