Former Jet frontman Nic Cester auditions for AC/DC in stunning twist before iconic band hires Axl Rose
Jet’s lead singer, Nic Cester, recently shared an interesting revelation about his past experiences in the music industry. The Australian rock star disclosed that he had auditioned to fill in as the frontman for the iconic rock band AC/DC before they ultimately hired Axl Rose from Guns N’ Roses.
During an appearance on Australian radio station Triple J, Cester recounted how he received a surprising call to audition for AC/DC after it was announced that Brian Johnson would be stepping away from the band due to hearing issues.
Cester admitted that initially, he was taken aback by the prospect of stepping into such esteemed shoes but ultimately considered saying yes for the life experience. The singer shared his thoughts, stating, “How could I turn this opportunity down?”
Not a stranger to performing AC/DC tracks, Cester had previously joined Muse for a cover of “Back In Black” at some of their live performances. Reflecting on the audition process, he described it as an intense experience, particularly noting the overwhelming volume of the amplifiers during their rehearsal.
Recounting his interaction with Angus Young, Cester explained, “Angus put me through my paces. Everything was a test to see how I’d handle it – the volume, the unfamiliar songs, and the pressure.” Despite his expertise with the Bon Scott songs, Cester acknowledged his struggle with the Brian Johnson tunes, recognizing the unique vocal style required for their rendition.
Following this revelation, Jet also announced their return to the studio for their first new album since ‘Shaka Rock’ in 2009. The rockers expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming release, scheduled for 2025, marking a significant milestone in their musical journey.
Jet is additionally celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album ‘Get Born’ with a spring Australian tour and a series of US shows in October. Fans are eagerly anticipating their live performances, with tour dates spanning various cities throughout May, June, and October.
For those interested in catching Jet live in concert, tickets for the Australian and US shows are now available for purchase. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the Aussie rockers deliver electrifying performances and new music in the near future!
