Rock icons, The Rolling Stones, made history by headlining the opening day of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival’s second weekend in 2024. This performance was unlike any other the event had ever seen. Despite being booked twice in the past five years, the band had to cancel due to Mick Jagger’s heart surgery in 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Finally, the legendary rockers took the stage at NOLA Jazz this year, and the festival made the unprecedented decision to shut down every other stage during their set. Who would dare to compete with The Rolling Stones?
With all eyes on them, the band delivered an impressive 18-song set that included a special appearance by the Soul Queen of New Orleans, Irma Thomas, for a rendition of “Time Is on My Side.” This marked the band’s first performance of the song since 1998. Local Zydeco accordion hero Dwayne Dopsie also joined the Stones on stage to add his unique flair to “Let It Bleed.”
The Rolling Stones’ performance at the New Orleans Jazz Fest came just three days after they kicked off their “’24 Hackney Diamonds” tour in Houston. The band is set to play in stadiums across the US until July, and fans can still grab last-minute tickets here.
