Ozzy Osbourne’s Quest for an Oscar: Inspired by Elton John’s Win
Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rockstar, is known for his groundbreaking music career, but there’s one accolade he’s yet to achieve – an Academy Award. In a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Ozzy Speaks, the 75-year-old musician expressed his desire to win an Oscar, citing that he wouldn’t be the first rockstar to receive one.
During the show, Osbourne’s cohost, Billy Morrison, inquired about any awards he still wished to receive in the future. Without hesitation, the former Black Sabbath frontman replied, “Oscar.” However, he made it clear that he wasn’t necessarily interested in pursuing acting to achieve this goal, referring to Elton John’s Oscar win for a song.
Elton John, a fellow music icon, has not one but two Oscars for Best Original Song. In 1994, he won for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” from Disney’s animated classic, The Lion King. Over two decades later, he received another award for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from the biopic Rocketman.
Despite his aspirations for an Oscar, Ozzy Osbourne is currently focused on recovering from spinal injuries sustained in a fall in 2019. However, this setback hasn’t deterred his passion for creating music. In fact, he recently confirmed his plans to release one more album and embark on a final tour.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in the Class of 2024. This recognition holds special significance for him, especially after his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, advocated for his inclusion in the Rock Hall as a solo artist.
Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Osbourne remarked, “My solo career has been a significant part of my overall music journey.” As he looks forward to continuing his music endeavors, including his hope for an Oscar win, fans eagerly anticipate what the future holds for the Prince of Darkness.
