George Strait is back in the spotlight once again! The country legend surprised fans during his concert at Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the NFL franchise Indianapolis Colts, by announcing his 31st studio album titled Cowboys And Dreamers (via MCA). Over 51,000 fans filled the stadium for his two-hour performance on Saturday, May 4, where he shared the exciting news with the crowd.
During the concert, Strait revealed that he has some new songs to share from the upcoming album, including tracks like “Three Drinks Behind.” He also had a special guest appearance by Chris Stapleton, who joined him on two numbers, “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” and “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing.” Fans were ecstatic to hear the new music live for the first time.
The highly-anticipated Cowboys And Dreamers is a follow-up to his 2019 album, Honky Tonk Time Machine, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Although the release date for the new album has not been announced yet, fans are eagerly awaiting more details.
This Indianapolis show was just one of ten concerts that Strait will perform in 2024. After facing several losses within his industry family, including his longtime manager Eugene Ervine “Erv” Woolsey, Strait took a break from the stage to cope with the devastation. However, he was thrilled to be back in front of his fans, expressing gratitude for their support during his difficult time.
As a tribute to his late friends, Strait remarked during the concert, “The last couple of months have been a tough time… music makes it all better. Thank you for coming out – we’ve had a great time tonight.” The audience was moved by his heartfelt words as he closed out the show with a six-song encore dedicated to his lost companions.
With a storied career that includes 44 Billboard Hot Country Songs chart-toppers, a record-tying 61 Country Airplay top 10s, and a record 27th No. 1s on the Top Country Albums Chart, George Strait has solidified his place as a country music icon. His remarkable achievements have earned him a well-deserved spot in the County Music Hall of Fame and three-time CMA Entertainer of the Year award.
