Titled “Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza,” this documentary will delve into the origins of the renowned ‘alternative’ music festival, which was founded in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, along with band manager Ted Gardner, and booking agents Don Muller and Marc Geiger.

The trailer for the series features appearances from Farrell himself, as well as other music luminaries such as Trent Reznor, Tom Morello, and Flea. It offers a glimpse into the rich history and cultural significance of Lollapalooza.

Directed by the multi-Emmy-nominated Michael John Warren and executive produced by James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte, “Lolla” is set to premiere on Paramount+ in the US and Canada on Tuesday, May 21, followed by a global release on Wednesday, May 22.

The inaugural Lollapalooza lineup in 1991 featured Jane’s Addiction as headliners, with acts like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Butthole Surfers, Ice T and Body Count, Living Colour, and Fishbone rounding out the bill. Over the years, the festival has showcased a diverse range of artists, from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and more.

According to the promotional materials for “Lolla,” the festival has been a trailblazer in many ways. It was the first to feature artists from different genres on one bill, the first to tour, and the first to introduce multiple days and stages. Additionally, Lollapalooza has been at the forefront of blending art and activism, offsetting carbon emissions, promoting electronic music, and creating family-friendly programming.

Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Lollapalooza and anticipate the release of this exciting documentary series. Stay tuned for more updates and news from Music Nation 365, your go-to source for all things music!
