Welcome to Music Nation 365, where we bring you the latest updates from the world of music festivals! Strap in as we take you on a journey through the sights and sounds of the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
With an extra day added to the festival lineup and the promise of a Rolling Stones appearance, it’s no surprise that this year’s event drew a record-breaking half a million music lovers through its gates. This impressive attendance marks the second highest in the festival’s history, falling just short of the 600,000 attendees in 2001.
Festival producer Quint Davis expressed his delight at the turnout, stating, “This year’s Festival presented as plainly as ever the beauty of Jazz Fest.” The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the historic performance by the Rolling Stones, who shared the stage with New Orleans icons Irma Thomas and Dwayne Dopsie, showcasing the deep connection between our culture and some of the greatest music of our time.
The Rolling Stones’ sold-out appearance was the culmination of a multi-year effort to bring the legendary band to the festival, overcoming previous cancellations in 2019 and 2021. Davis described the performance as one of the most anticipated and well-received in the festival’s history.
But the magic of Jazz Fest didn’t stop there. Other standout performances included Jon Batiste’s tribute to New Orleans piano legends like Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, and Allen Toussaint. The Foo Fighters made a triumphant return to the event, alongside artists like Chris Stapleton, the Killers, Queen Latifah, Fantasia, and Vampire Weekend.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for next year’s festival scheduled for April 24-May 4. With a lineup like this year’s, it’s sure to be an event you won’t want to miss!
