Get Ready to Dance: Marc Anthony’s ‘Muevense’ Soars to Top 5 on Tropical Albums Chart!
Marc Anthony has added yet another achievement to his illustrious career as his 11th studio album, Muevense, debuts at No. 4 on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart dated May 11. Released on April 24 via Sony Music Latin, the 10-track album earned 3,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending May 2, according to Luminate.
Sales and streaming activity played a significant role in Muevense’s debut week performance. The album sold 1,500 units, while 1,500 units came from streams, totaling 2.2 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Track-equivalent album units made up a small portion of the album’s first-week numbers.
On the Tropical Latin Albums chart, units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit represents one album sale, 10 individual tracks from an album, or a specific number of ad-supported or paid/subscription on-demand audio and video streams from songs on an album.
May has been a month of celebration for Marc Anthony, who not only secured his 15th top 10 on the Tropical Albums chart but also launched his own Sirius XM channel, Muevense Radio, on May 1. Running until May 31, the channel features a curated playlist, music from his influences and favorite artists, and stories from his more than three-decade-long career.
Muevense’s entry on the Tropical Albums chart comes two years and two months after Marc’s previous album, Pa’lla Voy, reached No. 3 in March 2022. The new album also extends his impressive streak of 15 top 10 hits over 31 years, beginning with his debut in the top 10 on Feb. 17, 1993, with Otra Nota peaking at No. 2.
Additionally, Muevense joins two other Marc Anthony albums on the Tropical Albums chart: 3.0 and Sigo Siendo Yo. While Sigo Siendo Yo marks its 280th week on the chart, 3.0 continues its reign with 509 weeks, solidifying its status as the album with the most weeks on the chart since its inception in 1985.
Apart from its Tropical Albums success, Muevense, featuring a blend of salsa tracks, a bachata, and a regional Mexican ballad with Pepe Aguilar, debuts at No. 50 on the Top Latin Albums chart.
The album was preceded by three songs, with “Ale Ale” making a significant impact on the charts. The track soared to No. 3 on the Tropical Airplay chart, with a 227% increase in audience impressions, reaching 4 million in the U.S. It also debuted at No. 22 on the Latin Airplay chart as the Hot Shot debut of the week, following its live premiere at the Latin American Music Awards on April 25.
On the Tropical Airplay chart, “Ale Ale” gave Marc his 57th top 10 hit, placing him second in the record for most top 10 entries, trailing only Victor Manuelle. Meanwhile, the bachata track “Punta Cana” slipped to No. 6 due to a 34% decrease in audience impressions.
In a surprising turn of events, Marc Anthony made his first-ever appearance on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart with “Ojala Te Duela,” a collaboration with Pepe Aguilar, in November 2023.
