Jay Wheeler and Kany García Make a Thrilling Return to Top 10 on Latin Pop Albums Chart!
For the first time in over four years, two albums have debuted simultaneously in the top 10 of the Latin Pop Albums chart by Billboard.
In the chart dated May 11, “Música Buena Para Días Malos” by Jay Wheeler opens at No. 4, while Kany García’s “García” lands at No. 8. This marks the first time the Latin Pop Albums chart has seen two titles debuting in the top region since October 12, 2019, when José José debuted at No. 1, 6, and 7 following his death in September, with “Serie Platino – 20 Éxitos Vol. 2,” “El Príncipe de la Canción,” and “Secreto,” respectively.
Wheeler’s “Música Buena Para Días Malos” starts with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States for the week ending on May 2, according to Luminate. Of these, just over 4,000 come from streams, which equals 6.3 million official on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Traditional album and song sales make up the remaining sum of the first week.
“Música Buena Para Días Malos” was preceded by a song on the general Latin Airplay chart: “Historia,” which reached No. 35 (chart dated April 27).
Furthermore, with the simultaneous debuts of two different artists in the top 10 of Latin Pop Albums, Wheeler and García also repeat an achievement last accomplished five years ago, when Miguel and Anitta debuted at No. 3 and 4, respectively, with “Te Lo Dije (EP)” and “Kisses” on the chart dated April 20, 2019.
Both add to the list of few albums that have debuted on Latin Pop Albums in 2024. Here are those five debuts in the top 10, including two No. 1s:
Date and debut position, title, artist
– January 27, No. 1, “Orquídeas,” Kali Uchis
– April 6, No. 1, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” Shakira
– April 13, No. 6, “Final, Vol. 2,” Enrique Iglesias
– May 11, No. 4, “Música Buena Para Días Malos,” Jay Wheeler
– May 11, No. 8, “García,” Kany García
García’s album enters Latin Pop Albums with 2,000 equivalent units earned in the United States during the same period. This was almost entirely driven by streaming activity of her 12 songs. The figure equals 3.4 million official on-demand streams of the album’s tracks.
García, who has a history on the chart, returns to the top 10 after almost five years, when her album “Contra El Viento” debuted and reached No. 3 in June 2019.
The Puerto Rican singer-songwriter has achieved a total of 10 titles on the list, eight of which reached the top 10, over three decades since her debut album “Cualquier Día” entered the charts at No. 10 in September 2007.
Preceding García were three songs on Latin Pop Airplay: “Una vida buena” reached No. 15 (February 3), while “Que vuelva” with Carla Morrison, and “En esta boca” with Young Miko, both reached No. 12 on the rankings of March 16 and 30, respectively. Lastly, “Te lo agradezco” with Carin León re-enters at No. 43 on the current multi-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, which combines radio airplay, digital sales, and streaming activity.
