Exclusive Interview with Sweden’s Benjamin Ingrosso: Eurovision 2024 Plans and New Album Revealed!
Sweden’s very own Benjamin Ingrosso stole the show during the first semi-final of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest with a spectacular performance. Singing a seven-minute medley of his hit songs, including his latest single “Look Who’s Laughing Now,” Ingrosso wowed the audience with his talent and charisma.
Having a long history with Eurovision, Ingrosso first competed in the Lilla Melodifestivalen for young artists in 2006, which he won at the age of 8. In 2017, he participated in Sweden’s national final with “Good Lovin’,” but it wasn’t until 2018 that he won Melodifestivalen with “Dance You Off” and went on to compete in Eurovision that same year.
Speaking to Billboard at the Malmö Arena, Ingrosso shared his thoughts on his return to Eurovision, his evolving career, and his upcoming projects. Reflecting on his growth as an artist since his last Eurovision appearance, he emphasized that he now sees himself as more of a performer than just a singer.
Revealing insights into his performance preparation, Ingrosso mentioned the impact of the pandemic on his work ethic, resulting in the release of several albums and live records. He also teased a new album and shared details about his latest single “Honey Boy” featuring Purple Disco Machine, Nile Rodgers, and Shenseea.
When asked about his future plans, Ingrosso expressed his excitement for his upcoming Scandinavian tour and hinted at a potential return to the U.S. for recording sessions. He also talked about his ambition to break into the American music scene and his aspiration for global success.
Offering advice to fellow Eurovision contestants Marcus and Martinus from Norway, who represent Sweden in 2024, Ingrosso encouraged them to enjoy their three minutes on stage and not take the competition too seriously. He also reminisced about a memorable performance of “Wild World” where he was surprised by Cat Stevens’ onstage embrace, expressing his admiration for the legendary artist.
Ingrosso’s journey from a young talent in Lilla Melodifestivalen to a seasoned performer on the Eurovision stage reflects his growth and dedication to his craft. With a promising future ahead, he continues to captivate audiences with his music and stage presence, leaving a lasting impression wherever he goes.
