Comeback Celebration: Fiesta Broadway Returns to Los Angeles After Four-Year Break!
After a four-year hiatus, Fiesta Broadway, a beloved Cinco de Mayo event in Los Angeles, is finally making a comeback. The event, which has been a staple in the downtown LA area for over 25 years, brings together thousands of Angelenos for a day of food, music, and fun activities for kids. However, like many other events, Fiesta Broadway was forced to cancel in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, leaving a void in the community.
Luis Medina, the president and executive producer of Uno Productions, one of the companies behind the event, expressed how the absence of Fiesta Broadway was felt throughout the city. “You can tell that Los Angeles has felt empty, a lack of celebration of unity,” he said. In previous years, the event has drawn crowds of around 100,000 people, showcasing the strong support and enthusiasm for the festival.
Now, under new management by All Access Talent and Uno Productions, Fiesta Broadway is gearing up for its highly anticipated return. The organizers have brought back the original producers of the festival to help ensure its success. “There is no one who could’ve helped us more than the people who created the festival,” noted Medina. Joining forces with the previous producers was seen as a crucial step in reviving Fiesta Broadway, along with the support of Los Angeles City Council member Kevin de León.
After receiving the green light from city officials, the organizers had just six months to plan and execute this year’s event. Medina shared that their phones were inundated with interest from artists, organizations, media, and sponsors eager to participate in the revival of Fiesta Broadway. He emphasized that the event’s success lies in its focus on the community, bringing people together to enjoy live music, diverse cuisine, and cultural performances.
For this year’s edition on April 28, Fiesta Broadway has lined up an exciting lineup of performances. Alex Lora from the rock band El TRI will serve as the Grand Marshal 2024, honoring legacy artists who have made significant contributions to the Hispanic community in the United States. The event will take over four blocks of Broadway St. and feature performances by Mexican actor and singer Pablo Montero, Graciela Beltran, Leonardo Torres, Mariachi Juvenil Nuevo Grullense, Juanito El Millonzuki, RocĂo “La Dama de la Cumbia,” and many others.
As the organizers prepare for the event, they acknowledge that the future of Fiesta Broadway is uncertain. “This year is a moreover learning experience on how we can remain up-to-date with the new era and keep the festival popular among the younger generation as well,” said Medina. Whether Fiesta Broadway becomes a permanent fixture once again remains to be seen, but for now, the focus is on delivering a memorable and vibrant celebration for the community.
