Nightwish, the iconic Finnish symphonic metal band, has just unveiled their highly anticipated upcoming studio album titled Yesterwynde. It marks their first album release in four-and-a-half years and is set to hit the shelves on September 20 through Nuclear Blast Records. Fans can get an early taste of the album with the lead single “Perfume Of The Timeless,” scheduled for release on May 21.
The mastermind behind Nightwish, keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, describes Yesterwynde as a captivating journey through time, memory, and the finer aspects of human nature. After three years in the making, the band is eagerly awaiting the moment when they can share their tenth studio album with the world.
Earlier this year, Nightwish took to social media to announce that their new album, now officially named Yesterwynde, had been fully recorded, mixed, and mastered. The album was crafted with a talented team including sound engineer Tero Kinnunen, mixing engineer Mikko Karmila, and mastering engineer Mika Jussila.
Drummer Kai Hahto hinted at the album’s musical direction, suggesting that Yesterwynde will be a heavier offering compared to their previous double LP, 2020’s Human :||: Nature. Hahto mentioned, “It’s not gonna be the same as Human :||: Nature. Probably, let’s say that we go back to more heavy, heavier things on the new album, but also there’s a lot of, again, new winds to blow, so to speak.”
Despite the excitement surrounding Yesterwynde, Nightwish made it clear that they have no plans for a tour in support of the album. In an official statement issued in April 2023, the band revealed that after their scheduled shows for June 2023, they will be taking a break from live concert performances. The touring hiatus was described as a personal decision, separate from the birth of singer Floor Jansen’s second child in October 2023.
Yesterwynde boasts an intriguing tracklist that promises to captivate listeners with its symphonic grandeur and musical depth.
