Coheed and Cambria, the US prog rock quartet, have pleasantly surprised their fans by releasing a standalone single titled “The Joke.” This new release comes ahead of their upcoming album, Vaxis – Act II: A Window Of The Waking Mind. The band’s new video for the single features the iconic character Al The Killer from The Amory Wars.
Recorded during the sessions for their highly anticipated 2022 album, “The Joke” offers a unique insight into the band’s creative process. Additionally, the B-side of the single, titled “Deranged,” was previously featured in the Batman: Arkham City soundtrack back in 2011. The song explores the complex and co-dependent relationship between Batman and The Joker, and has been remixed and remastered for its return to digital streaming platforms.
Coheed and Cambria’s leader, Claudio Sanchez, sheds light on the meaning behind “The Joke,” describing it as a willingness to be a punching bag for those in need of an emotional outlet.
For fans who want to add “The Joke” to their collection, the single will be available in two colored 7″ vinyl options: swamp green & blood mix (limited to 2500 copies) and coke bottle clear with blood splatter (limited to 1000 copies).
In addition to their music endeavors, the band is also making waves in the comic book world. The first issue of the final chapter in Sanchez’s acclaimed sci-fi comic series, The Amory Wars, is now available in stores through Boom! Studios.
Coheed and Cambria’s busy schedule doesn’t stop there. They are set to embark on a joint-headline US tour with Primus this summer, and will grace the stage at the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas in October, where they will perform their 2005 album, “Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness,” in its entirety.
