The 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival saw a record-breaking attendance of half a million people, thanks to an extra day and a highly anticipated performance by legendary rock band, the Rolling Stones. Organizers revealed on Monday that this year’s festival was the second most attended in its history, falling just behind the 600,000 attendees in 2001. In comparison, the 2023 festival drew over 460,000 visitors, making this year’s turnout particularly remarkable.
Festival producer, Quint Davis, expressed his admiration for the event, stating, “This year’s Festival presented as plainly as ever the beauty of Jazz Fest.” He highlighted the unforgettable moment when the Rolling Stones took the stage alongside New Orleans and Louisiana musicians Irma Thomas and Dwayne Dopsie, showcasing the cultural connection of the festival to some of the greatest music of our time.
The Rolling Stones’ historic and sold-out performance marked the culmination of a multi-year effort to bring the iconic band to the festival after previous cancellations in 2019 and 2021. Davis described the anticipation and reception of the band’s appearance as unparalleled, with fans eagerly waiting to witness their legendary performance.
Amongst other festival highlights were Jon Batiste’s exclusive set paying tribute to New Orleans’ piano legends such as Professor Longhair, Fats Domino, and Allen Toussaint. The Foo Fighters also made a vibrant return to the event, joined by artists like Chris Stapleton, the Killers, Queen Latifah, Fantasia, and Vampire Weekend, making the 2024 festival lineup a star-studded affair.
Looking ahead, the 2025 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is scheduled to take place from April 24 to May 4, promising another spectacular celebration of music and culture in the vibrant city of New Orleans.
