The impromptu ‘jam’ session began with O’Brien asking Giacalone to showcase his vocals, to which the vocalist responded by requesting a “hard breakdown” for a rhythm track.
What followed was a unique acapella metalcore performance, with O’Brien mouth-drumming along as Giacalone unleashed his intense screams. Despite technical difficulties that hindered O’Brien from hearing Giacalone’s vocals clearly during their Zoom call, the mix came through perfectly for podcast listeners.
“It sounded like you swallowed a crouton,” O’Brien humorously remarked to Giacalone. He then joked about Zoom discriminating against people in metalcore bands, adding a light-hearted touch to the collaboration.
Co-host Sona Movsesian even suggested that O’Brien would fit right in a metalcore band, to which the host humorously agreed, claiming to have a knack for screaming and a dynamic stage presence. He quipped, “And I do think that Satan resides within me,” showcasing his comedic flair.
Conan O’Brien has long been a supporter of heavy metal music, featuring bands like Slipknot, Linkin Park, and At The Drive-In as musical guests during his time on Late Night. His passion for the genre was further highlighted when he interviewed Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich on his podcast in April 2023.
